In Bangladesh, disability is often compounded by poverty and social stigma. Many believe disability is a curse, and families turn to untrained village healers — often causing further harm. CRP exists to break this cycle with compassionate, world-class care.

Mohoram Ali

Wheelchair journey across 18 countries

After contracting polio at just 18 months old, Mohoram Ali spent years visiting traditional healers with no results. In 2002, he came to CRP and completed computer training — becoming a receptionist and his family's primary earner. He founded a Disabled Peoples' Organization in his hometown.

In 2011, Mohoram embarked on an extraordinary wheelchair journey — travelling 25,728 km by bus and train across 18 countries, from Bangladesh to the United States. His motto: "We must do, because we can do, because we have to do."

Marzana Akter

From spinal cord injury to basketball champion

After falling from a tree in 2015, Marzana suffered a devastating spinal cord injury. She was admitted to CRP, where she began her rehabilitation journey. In 2016, she discovered wheelchair basketball and joined CRP's women's team — quickly rising to become team captain.

Marzana has represented Bangladesh at international wheelchair basketball camps in Nepal, Indonesia, and Thailand. She is now pursuing a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy at BHPI, CRP's academic institute.

Shoma Akter

From isolation to shop owner

Shoma lost her mobility after contracting typhoid as a child and became wheelchair-bound. Socially isolated, her grandparents refused to seek help. Everything changed when CRP's community team visited her home and persuaded her father to bring her to the centre.

Shoma attended the William & Marie Taylor Inclusive School through grade V, then completed vocational training. With CRP's support, she started her own shop — transforming from a dependent child to an independent entrepreneur.

Asad Molla

Paralyzed farmer to 90% independence

Asad was a farmer and day laborer — the sole earner for his family. While carrying a 50kg rice sack, he fell and suffered a devastating spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed below the neck (tetraplegic). His family feared he would never move again.

Through CRP's intensive rehabilitation program, Asad achieved what doctors considered near-impossible — regaining 90% independence. He can now walk and is planning vocational training in shop management to support his family once more.

Tuli Elizabeth Costa

Orphan to entrepreneur

Tuli lost both parents as a child and was raised by her uncles. Born with one leg shorter and weaker than the other, she couldn't walk properly. She came to CRP at age 4, where muscle-strengthening therapy enabled her to walk independently.

After completing secondary school, Tuli did 6 months of computer training at CRP's Vocational Training Institute, then learned mushroom cultivation. Today she runs her own small mushroom business while pursuing a Bachelor's degree.

Al-Amin

Painting the world with his mouth

Twenty-four-year-old Al-Amin from Rangpur discovered a remarkable talent at CRP — mouth painting. Unable to use his hands, he learned to create beautiful artwork by holding a paintbrush in his mouth, turning his disability into an extraordinary creative gift.

Through CRP's arts rehabilitation program, Al-Amin has developed his skills as a mouth painter, proving that talent and determination transcend physical limitations. His story inspires others to find their own unique path forward.

Kamrunnahar Shampa

From patient to CRP employee

Kamrunnahar came to CRP as a patient seeking rehabilitation. Through determination and the support of CRP's programs, she not only recovered but found a new purpose. She joined the CRP team as a receptionist, becoming a role model for other patients.

Now 27 years old, Kamrunnahar works full-time at CRP while pursuing her BA degree. Her journey from patient to employee embodies CRP's mission — proving that disability is not inability.

Rashna (Rashana Sharmin Camey)

Living life on her own terms

At 25 years old, Rashna has lived with Cerebral Palsy her entire life. In a society where disability often means isolation, she refused to be defined by her condition. With CRP's support, she found the tools and community to build a life of her own choosing.

Rashna's story, told in her own voice, is a powerful testament to resilience. She advocates for others with disabilities and shows that with the right support, every person can contribute meaningfully to society.

Md. Rubel Rana

Defying the odds after polio

Rubel contracted polio at just 9 months old. His parents, like many in rural Bangladesh, first turned to traditional healers — but the treatments failed. Both his legs were affected, and his family feared he would never lead an independent life.

After arriving at CRP, Rubel received comprehensive rehabilitation including physiotherapy, assistive devices, and vocational guidance. His story highlights why early access to proper medical care matters — and why organizations like CRP are critical in Bangladesh.
